Steps to Take after a Car Accident
If you have been injured in a car accident in the Sacramento area, there are several steps you should take in order to ensure that your legal rights are protected. First, make sure you file a police report and obtain a signed copy of that report for your records. Get as much evidence as possible from the scene of the accident including photographs of the vehicles involved and contact information for the other drivers as well as any eyewitnesses.
If you are unable to stay back at the scene because you’ve been injured, have a friend or family member get that information for you. Be sure to get prompt medical attention, treatment and care for your injuries. This not only helps ensure that you are on track for your recovery, but it also creates a record of the types of injuries you suffered and the treatment you received.
Do save your receipts, invoices and other evidence of expenses you have had that are connected to the car accident. Maintain a journal of the other challenges you experience such as chronic pain, discomfort and any inability to perform everyday tasks and duties. Contact an experienced Sacramento car accident lawyer who will help protect your rights every step of the way.
