A dangerous North Natomas intersection is the cause of yet another tragic traffic death in Sacramento.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a Sacramento Regional Transit shuttle bus at the intersection of Club Center and Banfield drives on September 9. It is the same intersection where a grandfather died while bicycling just months earlier. Demas Law Group is currently representing a client who was recently injured at the same location.
Intersection Accidents and Pedestrians
Intersection accidents are responsible for some of the worst injuries, especially to pedestrians. Unlike other drivers, pedestrians have no barrier to shield them from the full force of a collision. Survivors often suffer catastrophic injuries, and far too many pedestrian crashes are fatal.
Sadly, Sacramento is one of the most dangerous places for pedestrians. Smart Growth America’s 2024 survey ranked the Sacramento-Roseville-Folsom region as the 20th most deadly area in the United States. A total of 377 people died over a recent four-year period in that region alone.
Legal Options After a Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Sacramento
In California, certain family members can file a wrongful death claim when another party’s reckless or negligent actions result in a loved one’s death. A wrongful death claim is a civil action demanding compensation from the wrongdoer, either through a settlement with their insurance company or a wrongful death lawsuit.
Though money cannot make up for the loss of a beloved relative, compensation can help families maintain financial stability during such a vulnerable time. Some also find comfort in holding the negligent party accountable for their unlawful actions.
